Late Summer Lunch

Sunday, October 5th, 2008

This is an ode to summer called the I-Am-Going-To-Miss-Summer-and-Farmer’s-Markets-Delightful-Treats-Lunch. Beautiful late summer lettuce and tomato salad with olive oil and homemade white balsamic vinegar, partnered with a bowl of organic strawberries. Must be eaten outside in the last warm sunlight of the season.

Doormat

I would feel bad wiping my muddy shoes off on this gorgeous door mat featuring my favorite little birds. This mat comes from one of my favorite catalogs, Acacia (A sheltering tree and a source of healing materials and essential oils. Isn’t that beautiful?) which sells natural handmade products for the home and body.

Bird Bedding

I recently went a little ga-ga over this elegant vintage bedding from West Elm. Lately I have been looking at doing some designs (Etsy banners, polymer jewelry) using birds and simple black and white sketches. Lucky little West Elm has beaten me to the punch, but has also given me some ideas…

The Prettiest Shed

Bowen Island Shed

Thanks to materialicious for posting the prettiest little shed I have ever seen…and it’s for rent on my favorite island in the world, of course. In the past, I have lived in one room cabins or studios and with careful planning and plenty of storage, I would not mind trying it again in the future.

The Beauty of Whole Foods

Whole Foods

Whole Foods

A new Whole Foods recently opened up in Reno. People seem to be pretty crazy about it, judging from the crowds this weekend. Since shopping seems to be down across the nation, I think making food shopping a visceral experience with natural color, scents, beauty and form will get people out of their homes.

Tulip Dress

I hope to disappear in the garden with this pretty empire waist dress that I got a few weeks ago. There were not enough tulips this spring, so I need them on my clothes.

I love random public art and the windsurf/kiteboarding shrines at Big Washoe are some of the most loved and well cared for. Each season new art boards and colorful characters pop up out of the sand and enjoy the blue sky and mountain view.

Our Valley is full of wildflowers of all different colors, but the purple ones this year seem to be the most prevalent.

Picnic 3

Heather and I took a much needed picnic lunch break in the sunshine. Picnics are the best when it is just a lot of “pick” food. Random objects of tasty goodness.

I have noticed that picnics have gone out of style. No one seems to spread out a blanket in the grass anymore and enjoy some down time, yummy finger food, bare feet and a few bugs. We hope to bring that back.

Welcome to the Tumbleweed

Tumbleweed

Some days I just want to curl up in a small house and lock out the world. I have been infatuated with tiny homes for years and love to hear that they are becoming more and more accepted. Jay Shafer is one of my heroes.
